What are Manmade Disasters?
Manmade disasters can happen for a variety of reasons, such as negligence or error; the frailty of human intellect and intent; and the failure of systems that have been created by man. Manmade disasters can prove to be even more devastating than natural disasters. If the worst manmade disaster were to happen, existence of the entire planet may be wiped out.
Types of Manmade Disasters
Manmade disasters can be broadly classified into three groups-sociological, technological, and transportation.
– Sociological disasters
Man has created an intricate society that he may be proud of, but there are a number of problems and issues associated with said society. Sociological disasters can be devastating, and the world has witnessed such disasters ever since civilization has been formed. Some of the common sociological disasters include:
o Arson and crime
o Civil disorders
– Technological disasters
While technology has progressed at a rapid pace, technological disasters have also accompanied many achievements. Some of the common technological disasters that the world has witnessed include the following:
o Industrial disasters and structural collapses
o Power outages and fire
o Contamination due to radiation
o Chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear disasters
– Transportation disasters
There are a number of different means of transportation that allow us to get from one place to another with ease. However, these transportation means are also marred with flaws. The world witnesses many accidents every day and loses a number of lives to transportation disasters. Common transportation disasters that happen all over the world include:
While natural disasters causing harm and loss of property happen from time to time, manmade disasters prove to have a much larger and more harmful scope. Man is a species that has gained enough power to wipe out its own existence. Such disasters have happened throughout the course of history and will continue to do so in the future. Man has made great progress and is the highest form of life on the planet, but unfortunately, the scope of disasters caused by man may prove to be devastating for the planet. Care must be taken, for we are one species that can potentially destroy not just ourselves, but also our planet and beyond.
So we have to be very careful, otherwise soon we will be in grave danger. If it comes to that, we won’t be able to do anything to save us.
